To improve general well-being, this human service program’s leadership values and celebrates the human spirit and its capacity to adapt, change, and have an impact on people. This is a youth service organization titled Youth College Success, which will help underprivileged individuals by helping them to choose a future career, obtain a scholarship, and provide mental health support throughout their studies. The rationale for this human service program is to create a support system for underprivileged youth and help them obtain a degree and build a career. This will ensure that these individuals can have a good future and support themselves and their communities. These services are needed because a college degree can be a good indicator of success in later life and the ability of people to provide for themselves and their families.
The theory supporting the idea for this human services organization is the relationship between education and success later in one’s life. Moreover, statistically, underprivileged youth has a lesser chance of attending a prestigious college and therefore having a good job. According to Green (2021), the existing programs that helped underprivileged youth enroll in Ivy League colleges have shown that these schools may be biased towards such students and gatekeep them from getting an education.
The type of services that this organization will provide is helping students from underprivileged communities. This organization will help with counseling and support the students who may struggle while they obtain an education. The first goal is to provide counseling services to youth who finished high school or will soon graduate to help them make a career choice based on their interests and aptitudes. The assessment measure will have 100 individuals in this program within the first year. Next, the goal is to help these young people choose a career path, and the second assessment measure will be their college enrollment, with a target rate of 85%. The mission of this organization is to empower youth from underprivileged communities and support them while they go through the stressful stage of applying for colleges and obtaining a degree. The mission is directly related to the agency’s goals and objectives because it reflects the main idea of the organization, which is to help the youth succeed.
The program will be located in Miami, Florida, at the local youth center that targets underprivileged populations. In terms of resources, the organization will require an office and basic office supplies. Additionally, the organization will need to invest in advertising its services. Finally, in terms of human resources, this organization will need at least two counseling specialists with a background in psychology and an office administrator. For the daily operations of this organization, it will need three laptops, a landline, and office supplies.
The program takes into account the diversity of populations within communities, people’s capacity for survival, recovery, and flourishing, as well as the special traits displayed when pursuing self-determinism. Working together to satisfy human needs, human service professionals and client populations demonstrate the awareness, knowledge, and talent needed to impact others’ lives positively. When addressing the needs and best interests of others, it is crucial to respect and uphold the dignity, welfare, and integrity of each individual while also adhering to ethical standards and professional decision-making procedures. The value of the work done by social change agents is demonstrated by empowerment through best practices from a multidisciplinary approach reflecting the continuity of care in fulfilling the needs of individuals, families, communities, and beyond. Social change agents support, empower, bolster, and work with people during times of widespread social injustice in the hopes that their voices will be heard, lives will be changed for the better, and foundations will be established and improved to benefit future generations.
In summary, this paper outlines the philosophy of a humanitarian program for students from underprivileged communities in developing countries. Since education sets the scene for the future lives of these people and their ability to work and provide for themselves. Moreover, the organization will help these students find scholarships and jobs and plan their financials to ensure that they can successfully manage their resources and complete their education.
