Different agencies uphold distinctive values on the safety of learners in schools. Blad (2023) explores the key factors influencing learning efficiency within American schools and notices three major issues. These include the rising cases of mass shootings in the facilities causing profound student injuries and deaths, discriminatory on-site school resource officers’ distribution, and the elaborate role of law enforcement. Effective learning adeptly relies on the reconstructed sociocultural environment for the instructors and students.
The first hurdle addressed enshrines the rising number of mass shooting incidents in learning institutions. Blad (2023) argues that different national administrative agencies incorporated dynamic parameters to alleviate the insecurity levels in schools. After the recent Nashville elementary school shooting event, the Tennessee legislature introduced the Bill in the parliament to debate the increase in budget allocation for the facilitation of school police officers (Blad, 2023). A different issue within the education sector engulfs the discriminatively higher rate of on-site school resource officers, especially in institutions with a predominantly Black and Latino student population. Despite the categorization of high-risk schools based on high and low-poverty clusters, it is critical to prioritize the safety of all learners regardless of ethnic identity (Blad, 2023). The third imminent problem challenge is determining the key disciplinary roles and responsibilities of the school resource officers. Although law enforcement agencies aim at enhancing the security of the learners in the facilities, it is critical to adhere to the code of conduct based on handling the indiscipline under-age students.
Consequently, different stakeholders focused on the reconstruction of distinctive solutions curbing the profound issues. The solution to the first hurdle of insecurity within schools, the government incorporated parameters ensuring an increased percentage of on-site law enforcement personnel to monitor and render effective responses in the case of an alarm. Further, the national administration introduced a regulatory framework enhancing the indiscriminate police presence in all learning institutions despite the rationale of racial profiling and the predominance of Black and Latino student population. Ideally, it is the responsibility of the relevant entities to establish an appropriate code of conduct concerning the accountability quotient of the school resource officers to solve the controversial disciplinary duties and responsibilities.
