An Assignment with Active Learning Strategy

Topic: Learning Specifics
Words: 313 Pages: 1

Peer-assisted learning is an active learning strategy that encourages students to work together to gain knowledge and understanding. The strategy has been proven effective in enhancing students’ learning experience and promoting a more profound understanding of the subject material (Culha, 2019). In this method, students work collaboratively in small groups to complete tasks and help each other learn (Culha, 2019). For a class of nurses, an assignment could be created that addresses the objectives of Kyle & Carman’s essentials of pediatric nursing’s chapters 1 and 2 while implementing a peer-assisted learning method.

As such, each student could be assigned a specific topic from the book and asked to research it. Then, the students could form small groups and discuss their findings and exchange ideas. Finally, each group could prepare a presentation summarizing their findings. For example, to address the objectives of Chapter 1, students can pair up to discuss specific concepts related to child health, such as the different methods of measuring child health or the philosophy of pediatric nursing care (Kyle & Carman, 2020). Next, for chapter 2, students will be asked to examine access and barriers to healthcare and their effect on child health. Nursing students can investigate the different ways that healthcare accessibility affects a child’s health outcomes (Kyle & Carman, 2020). Through this assignment, students would gain a deeper understanding of the topics, as well as experience the benefits of Peer-assisted learning.

In conclusion, peer-assisted learning is an effective active learning method that allows students to work together in small groups to accomplish tasks and help each other learn. An assignment that fulfills the objectives of the mentioned nursing textbook while employing a peer-assisted learning technique might be designed for a class of nurses. Students would be able to obtain a greater comprehension of the topics as well as benefit from the advantages of peer-assisted learning through this project.
